Hi Duniway Families,
I am thrilled to be supporting the kindergarten teachers and students at Duniway! I have worked for PPS for 5 years. This is my first year working as a Kindergarten EA. Prior to that, I was a Reading EA working with K-5 students in reading intervention. Prior to that, I worked as a Preschool teacher in a Peer's Preschool.
I have been helping in schools since I was a little girl, due to my Mom being a teacher for 30+ years. I was raised with a deep love of reading, learning, and staying curious. I love working with Kindergarteners because their curiosity seems to know no end!
In school, I focused on early childhood development and family studies. I intended to be a social worker, but found myself constantly drawn to working in schools and after-school programs.
In addition to PPS, I work with Impact NW in their after-school SUN program teaching dance and science.
When I'm not working, I try to be outside as much as possible and explore the beautiful PNW.
Emily Fehrenbach is the Educational Assistant supporting the first grade classrooms here at Duniway. This is her 3rd year as an EA, and this school year (2023-24) she is also the mom of a Duniway fourth grader.
Growing up in Portland, Emily ventured off to the University of Texas at Austin where she received a degree in Applied Learning and Development with a minor in English. She has years of classroom and tutoring experience and enjoys bringing her hobbies of music, art, and reading into the classroom to help cultivate a love for learning whenever she can get a chance.
When not supporting the first graders and their teachers at Duniway you can find her spending time with her family out in nature, sketching & painting various local scenes, or even playing the guitar or listening to live music. She feels so lucky to get to work with your first graders and their teachers and is excited to watch them all grow and learn this school year. Go Dragons!
Hi, I am Sue Ledgerwood, the EA supporting second and third grade. This is my fifth year as an EA for PPS and fourth year at Duniway. I grew up in Seattle, then graduated from the University of Portland before becoming the Chief Compliance Officer and Manager of Customer Service for an investment advisor. After my children were born, I discovered a passion for working with kids and did so in a volunteer capacity for years.
I have been very involved with my children’s school and PTA (including two years as President), but my favorite volunteer hours were the ones spent in the classroom or working with kids. I am very excited to be working with your children this year!
Hello my name is Christy Suib. This is my 7th year as an EA at Duniway. As a mother of three children in PPS, I am very aware of the strengths, challenges, and absolute wonder of elementary-aged students. With the new school year underway, I continue to be amazed by students' perseverance, compassion and willingness to help and teach each other.
I am also tuned into the challenges and hardships these students face. With my past work experience with at-risk and marginalized youth in Portland, including running programs for homeless, runaway, and youth involved in the Juvenile Justice System, I am passionate about young people and creating equitable access to education and learning. This always remains in the forefront of my work.
